Reflexology is back! Suzanne Cliff will be visiting Anupa a couple times a month to offer this amazing therapy.
Foot reflexology is based on the understanding that there are reflexes in the feet that correspond to all parts of the body. Manipulation of these reflexes brings about positive physiological changes. With pressure and gentle massage to these parts of the feet, relaxing and healing effects are produced throughout the body.
Reflexology is effective in restoring balance and harmony in the body and releasing tension. It helps facilitate a deep state of relaxation, calms the emotions, produces a serene mind and is used to alleviate anxiety.
People may feel significant pain relief through reflexology. When this modality is applied to the feet, endorphins are produced and block pain signals to the brain. Foot reflexology also improves blood circulation, not only in the feet but throughout the entire body. The gentle stroking of the feet and the application of certain hand and finger techniques delivers oxygen and nutrients to vital organs and helps heal tissue and decrease pain.
Other potential benefits may include increased immunity, improved energy, reduced blood pressure, congestion relief, improved digestion, detoxification, and improved sleep.
Reflexology may be especially beneficial when paired with other healing modalities such as acupuncture, deep tissue laser therapy, and floatation therapy.
Reflexology is growing increasingly popular across Europe and Asia as both a complement to other treatments and as a preventive measure. One example is Denmark, where various municipalities and companies have employed reflexologists since the early '90s.
According to several studies, this practice in Denmark has resulted in reduced sick leave and absenteeism (and significant economic savings for the employers). Employees have consistently reported complete or partial improvement in conditions where they sought reflexologists' help and even relief for additional problems related to stress. In one municipal district, almost one-third of the employees reported greater satisfaction with their jobs after completing six sessions with a reflexologist.
The feet are a symbol of knowing one is being carried joyfully by harmony and love; a symbol of being open, in Trust, to yourself and to others. They provide us with thankful acceptance of life and of everything we encounter on our path. Through your feet you are being solidly anchored in yourself; being master over your emotions in a self-aware way, and full of self-confidence, allowing these feelings, not blocking them. Our feet offer a light-footed, joyful, warm existence if we build on our deepest, divine self; standing on our own feet, in balance. -Christiane Beerlandt, The Key to Self-Liberation
