Float Therapy

SPA11_DPMAX_white.jpg

Treat yourself to the incredible stress-dissolving experience of Floating. Floatation Therapy is a complete relaxation session for mind, body, and spirit experienced within a Dreampod; a soundproof, lightless environment within a shallow pool of 10 inches of purified filtered water warmed to body temperature and 1000 lbs of dissolved Epsom Salts. This creates a density that allows your body to float effortlessly, free from gravity and all external stimuli, taking all pressure off of tired joints, bones, muscles, and mind. Floatation therapy is a proven holistic health treatment that is backed by decades of scientific research. Athletes, students, first responders, chronic pain sufferers, and anyone that is in need of an escape from life's daily stressors may all benefit from floating.

You are in complete control of the floatation environment.  You can adjust your experience by keeping the lid open, leaving the lights illuminated or having music play. As you usher in calm and healing, simply step into the pod, close the lid, and lay back as you gently turn your attention to your breath and relax.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

  •  MENTAL

Floating is an energizing, rejuvenating practice that improves health and
    well-being, alleviates stress, and
    facilitates meditation and
    self-improvement.

    • Reducing activity in the cortex allows for a decrease in production of “stress hormones.”

    • Deep relaxation leads to an increased release of endorphins and dopamine.

    • Elimination of external stimulation facilitates deeper meditation.

  •  PHYSICAL

Floating helps eliminate fatigue and enter the flow state, improves sleep, speeds the body's healing process, improves athletic performance and increases motivation.

    • Floating reduces blood pressure while improving circulation, allowing for increased recovery from injury or athletic training.

    • Decreasing the build up of lactic acid helps to eliminate muscle fatigue.

    • The near zero gravity environment relieves pressure from the back, feet, and joints.

  •  CREATIVE

Floating facilitates creative insights, enhances problem-solving abilities, increases focus, expands awareness and accelerates learning.

    • Achieving and maintaining a Theta brain-wave state allows for an increase in creativity.

    • Allowing the brain to operate free from external distraction enhances problem-solving.

    • Heightened visualization helps to achieve the "flow state."

FLOAT HISTORY

"I went at noon to bathe in Martin's saltwater hot-bath, and, floating on my back, fell asleep, and slept near an hour by my watch, without sinking or turning! A thing I never did before and should hardly have thought possible. Water is the easiest bed that can be."    - Benjamin Franklin

In 1953, John C. Lilly began a job studying neurophysiology with the US Public Health Service Commissioned Ocers Corps. At the N.I.M.H. in 1954, with the desire of isolating a brain from external stimulation, he devised the first isolation tank, a dark soundproof tank of warm salt water in which subjects could float for long periods in sensory isolation. Lilly and a research colleague were the first to act as subjects of this research. What had been known as perceptual isolation or sensory deprivation was re-conceptualized as Restricted Environmental Stimulation Technique (R.E.S.T.). – Wikipedia

Many of the other terms related to floating are isolation tanks, chamber REST, relaxation therapy, relaxation technique and relaxation training.

Short-term sessions of sensory deprivation are described as relaxing and conducive to meditation. People use relaxation techniques for the following reasons, among others:

  • Anger management

  • Anxiety attacks

  • Cardiac health

  • Depression

  • General well-being

  • Headache

  • High blood pressure

  • Preparation for hypnosis

  • Immune system support

  • Insomnia

  • Pain management

  • Relaxation (psychology)

  • Stress management

  • Addiction treatment

  • Nightmare disorder

  • PTSD

  • ADHA

  • ADD

HOW DO I PREPARE MYSELF FOR MY FLOAT?

We recommend that you eat a light meal a minimum of 30 minutes before the float session. That way you can be relaxed and comfortable and not preoccupied with hunger.

Avoid caffeine the day of your float. This will help you to relax more.

We also recommend that you do not shave your legs or face for a day before the float. Cuts and freshly shaven body parts will sting from the salt solution and can be distracting. If you have small cuts or hangnails we do offer petroleum jelly to prevent irritation.

If you recently colored your hair, we ask that you wait at least one week before floating. This is to prevent ruining your new color and staining our pod.

Also if you have recently been tattooed we ask that you wait until after the skin has healed to prevent damaging your artwork.

Females experiencing their menstrual cycle the day of their float must reschedule their appointments.

Upon arrival we will have you fill out some paperwork and have you watch a short 6 minute video on what to expect while Floating. You may watch it prior to your visit - scroll down a and you will find the ‘cartoon’ like video.

You will be taking two showers, one prior to and one after your float. Both are a must. We want to keep our water clean and free from all cosmetic products and oils. The post-float shower is to rinse the salt from your skin to prevent scaling.

You will be floating in the nude so no need to bring a swim suit. We don’t want the sunscreen, sweat and oils in our pod. If you feel more comfortable in one - then okay!

What you may want to bring with you:

  • Brush or comb

  • Conditioner for you POST Float Shower (no conditioner prior to float)

  • Lotion for POST floating (no lotion prior to float)

WHAT IF I AM CLAUSTROPHOBIC?

You are in complete control of the float environment.  You can adjust your experience by keeping the lights illuminated or having music play. You can leave the lid wide open or just crack the lid open a bit to relieve apprehension.

HOW IS THE WATER MAINTAINED?

We strictly adhere to the North American Float Tank Standards and best practices to ensure quality, sanitation, and safety of our Dreampod Float Tank.

We visually inspect the Dreampod before and after each float. The filter is run immediately following each float and filters the entire contents a minimum of three times. The Dreampod is equipped with a sanitation system to filter particles from the water to 1 micron in size and is FDA compliant for drinking water (Class 1 Filtration). Standard pleated pool and spa filter cartridges only filter to 20-30 micron and require constant cleaning (Class 3 Filtration).

The filter is also equipped with UV light sanitation and the water is treated with a small dose of Food-Grade hydrogen peroxide.

Furthermore, salt is a natural anti-microbial and antiseptic, especially at the high concentration present in the pod.

CAN I FLOAT IF I AM PREGNANT?

Floating is ideal for pregnant women as it alleviates pressure on the skeletal system and joints, and assists in relieving muscle tension. We do recommend that pregnant women consult their physician prior to floating, especially during the first trimester.

DO I NEED TO BOOK APPOINTMENTS AHEAD OF TIME?

We recommend booking in advance, yet we are happy to accommodate walk-in appointments according to availability. Our online booking tool is easily accessible.

WHAT IF I GET SALT WATER IN MY EARS?

Simple! Put a couple of drops of DISTILLED WHITE VINEGAR (Not Apple Cider Vinegar) in each ear. The vinegar will dissolve the salt crystals.
