Sticking Together since 2017!

Community Acupuncture is the way acupuncture has been practiced in Asia for thousands of years. It is individualized acupuncture performed in a group setting where several people receive treatments at the same time.

Laura first brought Community Acupuncture to Salida in July 2015 at a yoga studio. Her vision of the living- room sanctuary setting with recliners came to fruition in December of 2017 with the opening of Anupa Wellness.

At Anupa we have five comfortable recliners with pillows for lumbar support. We talk in low voices in the community room in order to respect privacy. You are also welcome to bring your own earplugs.

Laura has been trained in many modalities i.e. Japanese style for Trauma and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injuries), NeuroAcupuncture is utilized for Concussions, Stroke, PTSD, Acute and Chronic Pain, Autism, Paralysis and Paresis, Parkinson’s, TBI ‘s and much more! Dr. Richard Tan’s style for endocrine and hormonal balance, emotional and behavioral health, acute and chronic pain, where needles are placed in many areas that you may not understand will help with your specific pain - but they do! She may also use auricular therapy or the NADA Protocol/ AcuDetox in the ear. All of these modalities are easily and effectively used in the community setting.

This collective healing environment is a relaxing and energizing experience for most people. No matter the primary issue, people who receive treatments regularly report better overall sleep, increased energy, mood improvements, less pain, and better health.

Acupuncture will normally cause people to feel sleepy during the time of treatment so in our treatment space you'll find family, friends, and neighbors literally napping together as they work towards common goals of better health, less pain, and relief from stress.

Our goal for providing the group setting acupuncture is to build community by delivering compassionate, affordable care in a comfortable place of rest and refuge. Laura believes wholeheartedly in the Acupuncturists Without Borders mission that by helping heal an individual’s trauma - we can heal a community.

We invite you to come and experience the healing benefits of acupuncture therapy as it was meant to be, in a calm and open environment.  We hope you enjoy the space as much as we do, and that Anupa Wellness becomes an ongoing part of your healthy lifestyle.

Acupuncture is an integrative medicine that awakens the body’s innate healing mechanism encouraging health and vitality. Evolving for millennia, acupuncture is rooted in spirit and grounded in science. It examines your body, mind, lifestyle and environment as a whole. Perhaps its biggest strength is in addressing both symptoms and the underlying imbalances. Acupuncture addresses the body, emotions, mind, and spirit - it seeks to bring harmony and health in a gentle yet effective way.

Acupuncture is one of the main forms of treatment in traditional Chinese medicine. It involves the use of sterile, single use, thin needles that are inserted in the body at very specific points. This process allows the body to adjust and alter its inherent energy flow into healthier patterns. It is used to treat a wide variety of illnesses and health conditions and also as a way to simply maintain a healthy balance.

Acupuncture can help you feel more energetic, emotionally balanced, and resistant to stress even if you do not have any specific medical complaints.

Acupuncture

  • Increases circulation by enhancing the flow of fresh blood and thus oxygen and nutrients to an area of injury to speed healing and to flush out waste products, toxins and stagnant blood.

  • Releases muscle tension & pain by accessing trigger points in your muscles. Trigger points are well-documented tender areas which, when stimulated, release tension in the muscle fiber. Acupuncture needles cause your muscles to release, thus relieving pain and tension.

  • Produces endorphins (the body’s natural opiate-like chemicals) that reduce pain, relieve stress and give some people a euphoric feeling.

  • Reduces stress and anxiety by reducing stress hormones like cortisol. Stress hormones are necessary in small amounts but are released too frequently in most people today. This sympathetic nervous system response (aka fight or flight) should be activated only to help us escape and survive in the most dire of situations, not activated on an hourly or daily basis. Stress hormones are responsible for damage at the cellular level in the body. They age you, cause sleep disruption, weight gain, appetite disturbance, and emotional imbalances; so reducing this systemic response is immeasurably important in resolving health concerns.

  • Stimulates the parasympathetic system which is our “rest and digest” system. You may hear your belly start to gurgle when you receive an acupuncture treatment: strong evidence that your parasympathetic system has been activated and that your body is in restoration mode. By taking you out of “fight or flight” and into “rest and digest” mode, acupuncture tells your body to stop using up resources and start rebuilding and nourishing the areas that need attention. Meditation is another great way to activate the parasympathetic nervous system.

  • Regulates the immune system, fortifying you against colds and flu, allergies, autoimmune conditions, and inflammation. Acupuncture can stimulate both red and white blood cell production.

  • Decreases inflammation by increasing circulation, producing endorphins, activating our parasympathetic nervous system, and reducing stress hormones. Inflammation is a healthy response to tissue damage and it can stimulate our bodies’ self-healing mechanisms. However, poor diets and unhealthy lifestyles can lead to an over active inflammatory response and inflammation is the root of all disease. Less inflammation equals a longer, healthier life.

At Anupa Wellness we love the effects of acupuncture for:

  • Mental Health - acupuncture is tremendously powerful at treating anxiety, stress and depression. Thanks to its ability to release endorphins, acupuncture is ideal for people working through psycho-emotional imbalances.

  • Digestive Health - acupuncture is incredibly effective at helping to heal the gut. Whether you are suffering from IBS, Crohns, colitis, SIBO, or an undiagnosed but life-altering digestive issue, acupuncture can help.

  • Pain Reduction - acupuncture is one of the non drug approaches that you may choose to treat your pain. It is a very safe alternative to the dangerous and possibly lethal opioid option for many types of pain. Acupuncture will reduce pain by enabling your body to decrease inflammation, increase blood flow and release endorphins.

  • Reproductive and Hormonal Health - acupuncture is effective at treating a vast array of hormonal based issues. Adrenal Fatigue is another dis-ease effectively treated with acupuncture and herbal therapies.

We offer ACU-Detox AKA NADA:

Vagus Nerve Stimulation with Acupuncture

The NADA (aka Acu Detox) protocol consists of five points in each ear. The Vagus nerve is the longest nerve in the body and is most superficial near the ear. These five points are used to calm the sympathetic nervous system allowing the parasympathetic nervous system to “turn on”. The Vagus nerve is our tenth cranial nerve and is arguably the most important for so many crucial functions for organs in our chest and abdomen. This nerve could be the gateway to decreasing systemic inflammation. The NADA Protocol is used for addictions, substance abuse, PTSD, emotional, sleep and behavioral health and so much more!
